The MeRG Team

Michel is a former rocket scientist and life long entrepreneur and innovator. He is the author of several research publications and patents in aerospace, energy optimization, and big data analytics. Michel is an expert in the development of cyber-physical systems, big data platforms, energy systems, and real time energy analytics. Michel has presented at many national and international conferences and participated in industry workshops hosted by the DOE, CEC, and the White House. He has served on multiple boards, including the Engineering Leadership Council for the Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UC Irvine, and the Board of CleanTech OC. Prior to MeRG, Michel founded MelRok, developer of an energy optimization platform for Healthcare, Hospitality and Campus Facilities. Prior to MelRok, Michel founded Space Launch Corporation, a defense contractor focused on the development of micro-satellite launch vehicles.

Michel holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Stanford.

Supporting the vision of MeRG Solutions founder Dr. Michel Kamel, John Heywood serves as Chief Financial and Operating Officer, contributing decades of global leadership in financial transformation, operational excellence, and enterprise strategy. His early career began with a BP traineeship and scholarship to the University of Technology Sydney, followed by a Master of Science in Risk Management from NYU Stern School of Business. 

John’s professional background spans roles at BP, Ernst & Young, and Alvarez & Marsal, where he led complex restructurings, cross-border integrations, and performance turnarounds across six continents. He is a recognized AI Strategist and business transformation specialist, applying what he calls the “Intelligence Multiplier”—the integration of human insight and AI-driven tools to enhance clarity, accelerate decision-making, and strengthen execution. 

At MeRG Solutions, John’s role complements Dr. Kamel’s engineering innovation by ensuring that the company’s platforms are built on strong financial foundations, scalable systems, and operational precision. United by a shared passion for purposeful innovation and sustainable impact, John and Dr. Kamel work closely to advance MeRG’s mission: delivering intelligent, resilient infrastructure solutions that meet the needs of a rapidly evolving world. 

John is a Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA), a Certified Turnaround Professional (CTP), and a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Dotty serves as MeRG's Director of Energy Services.  He is an experienced energy manager, project manager, and technology innovator with over 19 years of experience across energy management, product development, medical research, aerospace, and green technologies. With a proven track record of successfully managing energy projects, Dotty specializes in the implementation of cost-effective commissioning technologies, continuous commissioning, and energy improvement measures.

Dotty has spearheaded multiple energy optimization projects, including the DOE's Automated Cloud-based Continuously Optimizing Building Energy Management Systems (ACCO BEMS) at Pomona College. His technical expertise includes Python programming, data science, project management, commissioning, and team leadership.

Dotty’s deep understanding of product development and research has led him to drive successful energy projects and build energy management systems that provide lasting sustainability benefits. His leadership in the field has earned him recognition, including awards in Innovation in Energy Information Systems (EIS) and Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD).

Dotty holds a Master’s degree in Neuroscience and a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from University of California, Riverside, and is also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Certified Scrum Master (CSM).
